Man, know thyself
It was Socrates that said, “Man, know thyself” but what could he have been thinking of when he made that statement. Like, sir Socrates sir I know who I am sir. Remember one of those heated arguments between two angry uncles, A to B “ do you know who I am?” B to A “you, do you know who I am?”
But, if I may ask you sir/ma who are you? This reminds me of my first interview, I was being interviewed for an accountant’s role and the interviewer asked me, “tell us about yourself” it was that singular question that threw me off balance, you would think I’m asked to translate Greek to English, at least I would have used Google translate.
I went from one point to the other, still not able to say who I was, how pathetic of me. That should be the easiest thing to do I believe, telling someone about yourself. But this experience opened my eyes to how difficult it can be to tell someone about yourself, and this sudden stuttering wasn’t just about me because I was a newbie, it has happened to the best of us.
It is only wise and advisable to understand yourself. You may think you don’t need it for an interview like me but I also know that in our everyday life and self development, you need a good understanding of your interest, strengths, capabilities, etc
This knowledge will help you make better informed decisions for yourself; it will help you live a healthier life, a richer life, a life you’d be proud of. Many go through life without really living like a quote said ”everyone dies, but not everyone lives” how true.
But why is it that we can spend a longer time telling about who others are, but it gets stiffer and tougher when we have to say something about ourselves. Because the process of discovering yourself is not an easy task at all, it takes time, quality time to discover who you truly are, but when you do, you’ll live a life you would be proud of.
Today’s challenge: it’s not about you sir/ma. Write a complement note to anyone in your life
