Empowering others

Empowering Others: Even at their vulnerable state

Empowering others

There are times we are made to listen to some people and without choice, it is expected that we respond in affirmation to whatever we are told, these could be a command from a boss, senior colleague, parent or guardian or someone we hold in heart at high esteem.

This particular kind of situation has a way of putting us in a vulnerable state. This vulnerable state is so powerful that it could be the ripe moment when our confidence is either created or destroyed. Reason being that in the state of vulnerability, our hearts is open and it’s in a state of “record mode” and every experience at that point are taken within the fathoms of memory.

If a person is treated with disdain in their vulnerable moment, there is every possibility that their spirit is thrown into a state of abyss and even if they recover from this trauma (which could take an hour, a day or even a longer time), the gravity of the experience is recorded in the same way that other traumatic experiences are recorded. This is to show how destructive an abuse could be on another, and sadly most people frequently receive such.

Even in their Vulnerable state

This article is written to admonish us on what we can do to build into our lives and in the lives of other especially in that vulnerable moment when the persons before us (or even ourselves) are in the “record mode”. That moment when we are forced to listen and agree in affirmation without choice, that moment where it is expected that we go in directions as being told without hesitation.

The best we can offer to anyone in this state is to be gentle and kind in the best way we can at this moment. The vulnerability state of an individual is one that shouldn’t be toyed with, because at that moment, unforgettable experiences are recorded and this could go a long way to determine certain things in the life of the individual who is at the receiving end. Such moment could even be the making of belief for some individuals as they are meant to take to heart whatsoever is dished to them and to run with such ideology for a very long time.

Therefore, one in a vulnerable state ought to be treated with kindness, compassion, gentleness and respect. And when we do such, we aren’t just settling the peace in the heart of the receiver, but we are also planting a seed of goodness in the heart of the person to replicate such when they find themselves in superior positions.

That’s what Leaders are made of

Traumatic experiences are powerfully negative, and as leaders, it shouldn’t be heard of us that we contributed to the trauma someone is passing through in life. No matter how tough we are, we have all had these moments of vulnerability and we know how unpleasant such moment must have been for us especially if we were pressured to doing things against our will. However, we mustn’t let such circle repeats itself when we are privileged to be positioned high above others. Count it as an opportunity to be a building block for someone and a source of inspiration to someone out there.
