Happiness: The Happiness Advantage

Insight from the happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor

Shawn said “we become more successful when we are happier and more positive” I agree with him 100 percent. Especially when you get credit alert more often, hahaha

A few researches in the past has proven that happiness is a major source of success and happiness, we don’t even need to do much research on this, as a n individual when you feel good about yourself, you secret the endorphins hormone which in turn helps you make better decisions.

In 2005, Lyubomirsky did a meta-study which looked at over 200 studies on 275,000 people worldwide and he found that happiness led to success in nearly every domain, including work, health, friendship, sociability, and creativity.

Happiness gives us an advantage, a competitive advantage because it helps release other chemical hormones like dopamine and serotonin that make us feel good, which is why I always encourage everyone to fill their mind with positive things first thing in the morning.

This helps us process more information and faster.

So the real question now is, how to I build my Happiness Advantage?

Help Someone By using your Signature strength: your signature strength is that thing you are a natural at, something that brings about fun for you. An area of skill or talent, use that to help someone or be of service to someone, it sure would make you happier.

Arrange something to look forward to: a research shows that just the thought of something they are excited about increase their endorphin level by 27 percent. Anticipate something you enjoy, a trip, a movie, hangout, a dinner. The anticipation alone is a boost of happiness. I always look forward to a trip, I enjoy traveling.

Practice Gratitude: make It an habit to practice gratitude, you can form this habit by journaling before you sleep each day 3 things you are grateful for.

Perform deliberate acts of Kindness: Sonja Lyubomirsky, a leading researcher and author of The How of Happiness, has found that individuals told to complete five acts of kindness over the course of a day report feeling much happier than control groups and that the feeling lasts for many subsequent days, far after the exercise is over.”

Yearn For social Support: Don’t bottle it down, talk to someone. In the midst of challenges and stress, some people choose to hunker down and retreat within themselves. But the most successful people invest in their friends, peers, and family members to propel themselves forward. This principle teaches us how to invest more in one of the greatest predictors of success and excellence—our social support network.”

AS an Individual: I need to make conscious effort to be happy.

AS a team we need to be our greatest support system. We all need ourselves.
